Day Four - 6/18

Events presided over by Dr. S. Stonedahl
What we did
    Caleb cleaned counters
    Attached final bottom corner guard
The hopefully finished Ant-farm Apparatus
    Took two settled K-value measurments of 2nd sand (mason sand) {K = 0.000585m/s,0.000583}
    Filtered 3rd sand (traction sand: Mastercraft)
    Changed sands in permeameter from 2nd sand to filtered 3rd sand
    Exterminated air bubbles  D:
    Cleaned lab area
Water seems to get everywhere
    Ran a K-value tests of filtered3rd sand (traction sand, filtered) {K = 0.000705 m/s}
    Emptied permeameter
    More Air bubbles were Exterminated D:
    Ran a K value Test with no sand {"K" = 0.002214}
    First SRI lunch.
    Changed sands in permeameter from filtered 3rd sand to unfiltered 3rd sand
    Had to exterminated even more air bubbles  ! D:
    Ran a K-value tests of unfiltered 3rd sand (traction sand, filtered) {K = 0.000943 m/s}
    Devised way to test if 1st sand (play sand) was still usable
The bucket apparatus, a way to test if our filters are causing the play
 sand to act strange and  maybe eventual wash our sand
    Began test on 1st sand (play sand)
    MATLAB code can produce res. time distributions now
Another NetLogo simulation
What we will do
   Implement tested K-values in computer code.
   Take settled K-value measurement of 3rd sand (Traction sand, unfiltered)
   Take more K-value readings for 1st sand (play sand)
   Go shopping for other sands
SELFIE TIME!!!! !!! !  !!

  1. I'm tempted to try a bag of pea gravel and see both what we get for a K value, and how much the sand infiltrates into it. Pea gravel paired with Mason sand might be as different as white play sand paired with traction sand... maybe. Have you guys found anything exciting?
